Any Breed. Any Size. Any Age. Any Reason.Duke-I need a special foster home!
BREED: Lab
AGE: 2 years old
SEX: Male
COMMENTS: We would like to introduce everyone to this lovable Lab named Duke.
Duke almost didn’t come in on transport a couple weeks ago. We had plans to pull three gorgeous dogs and bring them up on transport from Kentucky. We received a call the day before the transport left and they told us that Duke had tested heartworm positive. Lots of folks would have decided to leave Duke down at the rural pound that housed him, but we couldn’t. Heartworm disease was a sure death sentence for …this boy if left in Kentucky. We knew we couldn’t leave this beautiful boy behind regardless of the costly treatment ahead.
Duke has been boarded at our vet’s office the last couple of weeks. He won’t start treatment until the 3rd week in February.
Here’s where we need everyone’s help. We need to find a foster that can keep Duke during his treatment. The catch is it’s a little bit longer stretch of time than what most fosters require. Duke will need to be kept quiet for 10-12 weeks. And by quiet we mean the first 4 weeks are basically crate rest and leash walks to go potty, and then right back into the crate. Period. The first four weeks of inactivity are crucial after a dog begins heartworm treatment. The next 8 weeks are low level activity and only leash walks. It’s imperative his heart has a chance to heal and not be stressed by too much activity.
Please share Duke’s story as we need to find a foster in Schaumburg or surrounding suburbs who can open their heart and home to Duke for just a little while.
We will provide absolutely everything needed to care for Duke. All the foster will need to do is commit to loving him and keeping him
quiet.

Start The Adoption Process Today
Begin by filling out an adoption application and we start pairing you with your perfect pooch!
Chicagoland Dog Rescue Dogs
Our trained volunteers will determine which home among all applicants is the best fit for the dog, and the dog will be brought back to complete the adoption paperwork. Our adoption fee is $400-450 for puppies 7 months and up and dogs. The fee covers the cost of all medical care including all legally required inoculations, a fecal test and deworming (if required), spaying or neutering, and a microchip. Lifetime training is also included.
***** All breeds listed are a best guess or based on information from our rescue partners and are not guaranteed*****
All our dogs have all legally required preventative inoculations, are microchipped and are spayed or neutered to control the repetitive birth cycle that produces more unwanted dogs. Most have been rescued from kill shelters in the Midwest, so their exact breed and age is often unknown. All dogs have been medically or emotionally rehabilitated as needed and are temperament tested to assess their fit with other dogs, cats and children.
